11-11-2009: At 18:42hrs Catlettsburg Fire was alerted to a mutual aid
request from Kenova FD for a large brush fire. Unit 6 with a crew of 6
responded to the location and well as other mutual aid departments,
Ceredo FD, & England Hill VFD, from Wayne County & Boyd County to
battle this large brush fire. Unit 6 crew work with fire rakes as well as
placing portable leaf blowers into service to set up fire lines to contain
the blaze. Unit 6 went back in service after 3 hrs of work.
11-22-2009: Crews responded to a report of a possible structure fire in
the 300blk of Summit Alley. Engine 4 responded under the command
of Deputy Chief Payne. Upon FD arrival, crews found a very light
smoke condition in the residence. Upon search of the residence with a
thermal imaging camera, crews located the problem from the
basement area of the structure. Crews found that a electrical wire had
shorted out and burnt the backing of some insulation. FD removed the
burnt material from the structure and shut the power down to the
residence. Crews went back into service in just under 1 hour.

12-29-2009: At 19:31 hours CFD was alerted to a structure fire on
High Ave. Within minutes CPD units arrived and reported heavy fire
coming from the front of a trailer. While en route E-1 requested
Station 83 (England Hill) to respond with tankers for a water supply,
due to the location of the fire being at the top of a hill. Upon arrival
crews, under the command of 4202 ( Deputy Chief Payne) initiated an
aggressive attack and had the fire knocked down in 10 minutes.
Additional crews then went to work doing extensive overhaul on the
structure. Units was in service just over 3 hours in all.

1-1-2010: With 2009 behind us and a brand new year starting, the
members of the Catlettsburg Fire Department would like to take this
time to wish everyone a SAFE and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
1-6-2010: At 18:10 this date units were alerted to respond to the
local high rise apartment building for smoke on the first floor.
Engine 1 arrived, with eight firefighters, under the command of Capt.
Yates and crews were able to detect a smell of electrical wiring
burning. Crews began their search in the area of the exercise and
laundry room. While crews were searching those areas Command
spoke with maintenance personnel and found out that a vending
machine had been causing trouble earlier in the day. After further
investigation, it was determined that the compressor on the vending
machine and went out and was causing the smell. Crews cleared
the scene in just under 40 minutes.

1-8-2010: At 18:10 Engine 4 with 5 firefighters, responded to a
reported vehicle fire in the 900 block of Center St. Upon arrival, crews
found a Jeep 4x4 sitting on the parking lot with its hood up. Upon
investigation crews were advised that the front bearing over heated
and was smoking. FD used tank water to cool the vehicle. Units went
back into service in just 27 minutes.

1-11-2010: At 24 minutes after 0100hrs, Station 42 (Catlettsburg)
was dispatched to respond mutual aid for Station 83 (England Hill),
for a report of a structure fire in the 15000blk of Spurlock Hill in
Station 83 district. Upon arrival of St. 83 first in engine, command
reported a fully involved single story structure with heavy fire on
all sides and also requested Station 94 (Cannonsburg) and Station
93 (Big Sandy). 42 E-4 responded to the scene with 6 firefighters.
Upon arrival E-4 crew assisted Station 83's in starting a defensive
attack on the fire. Due to the very cold weather firefighters had to
deal with there was also a 300 gallon propane cylinder at the back
of the residence. After most of the fire was put out, crews began
the long task of putting out hot spots and looking for hidden fire
that was under the floor. Crews worked for several more hours
before returning to service.
