1-1-2010: With 2009 behind us and a brand new year starting, the
members of the Catlettsburg Fire Department would like to take this
time to wish everyone a SAFE and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
1-6-2010: At 18:10 this date units were alerted to respond to the
local high rise apartment building for smoke on the first floor.
Engine 1 arrived, with eight firefighters, under the command of Capt.
Yates and crews were able to detect a smell of electrical wiring
burning. Crews began their search in the area of the exercise and
laundry room. While crews were searching those areas Command
spoke with maintenance personnel and found out that a vending
machine had been causing trouble earlier in the day. After further
investigation, it was determined that the compressor on the vending
machine and went out and was causing the smell. Crews cleared
the scene in just under 40 minutes.

1-8-2010: At 18:10 Engine 4 with 5 firefighters, responded to a
reported vehicle fire in the 900 block of Center St. Upon arrival,
crews found a Jeep 4x4 sitting on the parking lot with its hood up.
Upon investigation crews were advised that the front bearing over
heated and was smoking. FD used tank water to cool the vehicle.
Units went back into service in just 27 minutes.

1-11-2010: At 24 minutes after 0100hrs, Station 42 (Catlettsburg)
was dispatched to respond mutual aid for Station 83 (England Hill),
for a report of a structure fire in the 15000blk of Spurlock Hill in
Station 83 district. Upon arrival of St. 83 first in engine, command
reported a fully involved single story structure with heavy fire on
all sides and also requested Station 94 (Cannonsburg) and Station
93 (Big Sandy). 42 E-4 responded to the scene with 6 firefighters.
Upon arrival E-4 crew assisted Station 83's in starting a defensive
attack on the fire. Due to the very cold weather firefighters had to
deal with there was also a 300 gallon propane cylinder at the back
of the residence. After most of the fire was put out, crews began
the long task of putting out hot spots and looking for hidden fire
that was under the floor. Crews worked for several more hours
before returning to service.

1-21-2010: Just before 0700hrs, CFD respond mutual aid to
Station 83 (England Hill) for a reported structure fire in the 8400blk
of Johnsons Fork. CFD Engine-2 responded under the command
of Deputy Chief Payne, (4202), with seven firefighters. Upon arrival
of 8301, (England Hill Chief Franklin), he reported light smoke in
the residence. 83E8 and 83T1 arrived on scene and found a
bedroom on fire and started a interior attack. CFD E-2 arrived on
scene and assisted in salvage and overhaul of the room. Crews
went back into service in just under 2hrs.

1-24-2010: 3400 blk Valley St. E-1 responded under the
command of Assistant Chief Crump. Upon arrival, units observed
smoke conditions coming from the residence. Upon investigation,
crews found that the homeowner was cooking and cooking oil
caught fire in the skillet. Before Engine 1 arrived on scene a CPD
unit removed the skillet from the residence. Crews went to work
ventilating the structure, checking for extension, and securing the
electric to the appliance involved. Crews went back into service in
30 minutes.

1-27-2010: At 20:30hrs the tones were dropped for a mutual aid
request from Station 83 (England Hill) for a trailer fire in the
15000blk of Indian Trl. 8301 (Chief Franklin) arrived on scene and
advised that the structure was fully involved. CFD Engine 2,
under the command of 4202 (Deputy Chief Payne), went en route
with 5 firefighters on board while another full crew staffed
another engine at the station to cover calls in the city. 83E8
arrived on scene and their crew began an interior attack through
the front door. CFD E-2 arrived on scene and went to work
assisting 83's crew with an interior attack through the back of the
structure. At 20:58 the fire was knocked down and all crews went
to work on over haul. Also on the scene was Station 93 (Big
Sandy) and Station 94 (Cannonsburg) was assigned to R.I.T..
Engine 2 went back into service after 1 hours and 30 minutes.

2-23-2010: At 05:05hrs this morning CFD was alerted for a mutual aid
run to our brother across the river in Ceredo, WV. Ceredo FD along
with many other departments were on scene of a working fire in a 3
story multi unit apartment building. 42E2 under the command of 4202
(Deputy Chief Payne) responded with 7 firefighters. Once on scene
Station 42's crews split into 2 groups. One group went inside to the
second floor to relieve crews operating and to assist in opening up
the second floor. The 2nd group pulled a 1 3/4 line off an engine and
made their way to the second floor via ladder. 42E2 operated just
under 3 hours before returning to service.
